Question:
Omayna UK *All dates (and timings if you have) of any blood, spotting, and coloured discharge must be included within the dates. If not, the answer may be incorrect.* I was hoping you could help me with something if you have time. I had a baby in January and then I bled for 59 days. My old period habit (clean days between periods) was 19 days so after 59 days I classed it as Haidh and it lasted around 10 days. Since then (March) I have not experienced any bleeding but then on Saturday i had some red/brown discharge for 3 days and yesterday so far I have only had clear discharge. In the past my period used to last 8 days. My question is how do I know if I’m going to keep bleeding? Shall I do ghusl and pray namaz or do I wait and see if I’m still bleeding/spotting. Previous periods before pregnancy: 2024 18-25 Jan 13-20 Feb 10-17 March Usual habit I bleed for 7-8 days depending on timings. I haven’t recorded the timings from last year. My periods were always regular before pregnancy Baby was born 13 Jan 2025 14:00pm, bled until 23 March (Mixture of blood initially then coloured discharge) During pure days I had blood 2nd April-5th April (I continued to pray over these days) Since then clean until I noticed red/brown discharge 2nd (10am) - 5th August (4am) and yesterday I have so far had nothing

📝 Answer:

The bleeding and purity (tuh’r) has been in the following sequence before pregnancy:

18 January to 25 January, a total of 7 days of period.

19 days of purity (tuh’r)

13 February to 20 February, a total of 7 days of period.

19 days of purity (tuh’r)

10 March to 17 March, a total of 7 days of period.

Pregnancy

Date of delivery: 13 January

The bleeding and purity (tuh’r) has been in the following sequence after delivery:

13 January to 5 April, a total of 82 days of blood.

➖➖➖➖

✍️ Solution:

♦️ 13 January to 22 February, a total of 40 days of post-natal bleeding.

🔸 22 February to 13 March, a total of 19 days of definitive purity (istehadha).

▪ If you performed ghusl on 22 February, salah after it are all valid. If you didn't, then make qada of all the salah until you took ghusl.

▪ If you left any salah thinking of it as haidh and it turned out to be istehadha, then make qada of them.

♦️ 13 March to 20 March, a total of 7 days of period.

🔸 20 March to 5 April, a total of 16 days of definitive purity (istehadha).

▪ If you performed ghusl on 20 March, salah after it are all valid. If you didn't, then make qada of all the salah until you took ghusl.

▪ If you left any salah thinking of it as haidh and it turned out to be istehadha, then make qada of them.

➖➖➖➖

16 days of istehadha + 119 days of purity (tuh’r) = 135 days of invalid purity (tuh'r-e-faasid).

2 August to 4 August, a total of 2 days of blood.

❄ Habit: Nifas : 40 days, Haidh : 7 days, Purity (Tuh’r): 19 days

You are in the days of your period right now, so, if bleeding continues you cannot do any of your ritual worship.

If bleeding stops before 5 August (3 days), and is followed by a 15 day or more period of purity, then all of this will become istehadha.

If the questioner is married, then she should keep this in mind as well:

Even if the bleeding stops and she performs ghusl and resumes salah, intimacy with husband remains prohibited till 9 August.

If bleeding continues after 12 August (10 days), or stops, but starts again with gaps of less than 15 days, then please ask the masla again.

If the bleeding stops before 9 August then take ghusl immediately and start saying your prayers but take ghusl on 9 August too to be on the safe side.

Kindly, keep note of the bleeding/spotting with month, date and time.

And Allah Ta’ala knows best.
